Issued on 15 October 2026

The Communist Party Marxist Kenya calls upon workers, peasants, students, progressive organisations, communist and workers’ parties, and all defenders of democratic rights to mobilise in solidarity with Comrade Booker Omole, General Secretary of CPMK, ahead of his court appearance at Mavoko Law Courts on Friday, 16 October 2026.

FROM ABDUCTION TO THE COURTROOM

On 24 February 2026, Comrade Booker Omole was abducted by armed men in plain clothes while travelling from Isiolo towards Nairobi. The men surrounded his vehicle without initially identifying themselves as police officers. A confrontation followed, and it was only after members of the public intervened and demanded to know who the men were that they identified themselves as police.

What followed was a grave episode in the struggle for democratic rights in Kenya. Comrade Omole was taken into custody, transported to locations including a Party rented apartment in Nairobi and Mlolongo Police Station, and subjected to severe physical abuse and interrogation. He sustained serious injuries, including an injured arm, a damaged tooth and cuts to his fingers. These allegations demand serious and independent scrutiny.

On 26 February 2026, he was produced before the Mavoko Law Courts with his injured arm crudely bandaged. Bail was initially denied because the required pre bail documentation had not been provided. He was subsequently granted bail on 3 March 2026.

This sequence of events raises fundamental questions about the conduct of law enforcement, the protection of an accused person’s constitutional rights, and the treatment of political organisers in Kenya.

An arrest must not become an abduction. Detention must not become an opportunity for torture. Prosecution must not become a weapon for political intimidation.

These are not privileges demanded by a communist leader. They are principles of justice that must apply to every Kenyan.

A PROSECUTION SURROUNDED BY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

The criminal proceedings against Comrade Omole have raised questions that the public has a legitimate interest in seeing examined through a fair and transparent judicial process.

On 9 March 2026, Andrew Amoth, identified in the prosecution as a complainant and key witness, submitted an affidavit seeking to withdraw his complaint and statements. In the affidavit, he raised allegations concerning the manner in which the case had been brought against Comrade Omole. The defence has also maintained that the firearm at the centre of the allegations was legally registered.

These developments are significant. They do not, in themselves, determine the final outcome of the case, but they underscore the importance of examining the evidence carefully, testing witness testimony and ensuring that the proceedings are not influenced by political considerations.

Serious questions have also arisen concerning property allegedly seized during the operation. The defence identified KShs 319,000, a passport, prescription glasses, an iPhone 12 and a charger among the items taken. A police inventory subsequently recorded KShs 311,000 alongside other alleged exhibits, including a firearm, ammunition and suspected cannabis.

The discrepancies between the accounts, the circumstances of seizure, the handling of exhibits and the chain of custody must be subjected to proper judicial scrutiny. No allegation should be accepted merely because it appears in a police inventory, and no accused person should be condemned before the evidence has been tested.

The Party therefore demands a fair, impartial and transparent process in which the prosecution is required to establish its case through credible evidence and the rights of the accused are fully respected.

THE POLITICAL CONTEXT CANNOT BE IGNORED

By Booker Omole General Secretary, Communist Party Marxist Kenya   Submitted to Marxistische Blätter for publication in the forthcoming edition, “In Praise of Communism” 26 August 2026   For me, communism is not an abstract doctrine, nor is it a foreign idea that Africa must import from Europe. It is the science and organised practice of human emancipation. It is the struggle to create a society in which human beings are no longer divided between those who own and those who labour, between those who command and those who obey, between those who accumulate wealth and those whos [ ... ]
