Official Statement by Booker Omole, General Secretary, Communist Party Marxist Kenya (CPMK)

With heavy revolutionary grief, the Central Organizing Committee of the Communist Party Marxist Kenya (CPMK) mourns the untimely death of Comrade Dr Ammar Baghdash (1954–2025), General Secretary of the Syrian Communist Party, who passed away in exile in Athens, Greece, on 12 July 2025, aged 70.

Comrade Baghdash did not die a quiet death. He died in struggle, in exile, banished from the soil of his homeland by the imperialist Axis of US–NATO–EU and their local jihadist proxies. He died not because of age, but because of imperialist war, betrayal, and silence; the silence of those who claimed the red banner but folded it when it mattered most.

Let the world know: Ammar Baghdash was a hero of the world proletariat, a staunch Marxist-Leninist, a son of Damascus who rose through the ranks of the Syrian Communist Party from the trenches of youth work to the highest command of the proletarian vanguard. He upheld Marxism-Leninism during the hardest years of counter-revolution, war, and social collapse. When others capitulated, he stood firm. When reaction attacked, he did not retreat. When imperialism hunted him down, he chose exile over betrayal.

He was a true internationalist, trained in the Soviet Union, educated in the science of proletarian revolution, and committed to the unity of the Arab peoples against Zionism, imperialism, and comprador treachery. He worked closely with the Palestinian Communist Party and maintained principled solidarity with revolutionary movements across West Asia and the world.

But let us be clear: his death is not just a natural event; it is a political event.

It raises sharp questions:

Why was this comrade; a national leader, a revolutionary intellectual, a lifelong Party cadre; left to perish in exile?

What solidarity was extended by the so-called Left parties in Europe, particularly the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), under whose terrain Comrade Baghdash sought refuge?

Was his rejection of the “imperialist pyramid” theory, and his insistence on the correct application of class analysis to the Syrian war, the reason he was politically isolated even in exile?

Let the record show: he did not capitulate.

He did not embrace the narratives of humanitarian imperialism.

He did not join the NGO circus.

He did not trade revolution for asylum.

Comrade Ammar Baghdash died as he lived — a Communist.

LESSONS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL MOVEMENT

To the communist movement in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Arab world: let this be a wake-up call.

Imperialism does not simply destroy nations; it destroys parties. It uproots leaders, it assassinates movements, it imposes silence and exile, it turns refugees into forgotten names.

And yet, it is within this crucible of fire that the true revolutionaries emerge; those like Comrade Baghdash who do not bend, do not compromise, and do not sell the people’s cause.

To the so-called Marxist parties in Europe who failed to defend him — history will judge you.

You failed one of your own.

You failed internationalism.

You failed the proletariat.

CPMK SALUTES A MARTYR

The Communist Party Marxist Kenya salutes Comrade Ammar Baghdash not only as a Syrian patriot, but as a global proletarian leader. His example strengthens our resolve in the trenches of neocolonial Kenya. His clarity, his commitment, and his courage serve as weapons for our ideological school, our youth leagues, and our mass organisations.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the Syrian Communist Party, to the Palestinian Communist Party, and to the broader Arab revolutionary movement. His blood cries out for vengeance; not by words, but through continued struggle.

THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES

Comrade Ammar Baghdash is gone, but the red banner he defended remains aloft.

From Damascus to Nairobi, from Palestine to Congo, from Haiti to Sudan, the cry is one:

Down with imperialism! Down with Zionism! Down with comprador betrayal!

From exile to the frontlines, we affirm:

The Communist Party is the only force capable of leading the people to true liberation!

From martyrdom we draw strength.

From pain we draw clarity. From exile we organise return.

HIS NAME SHALL BE UTTERED IN STRUGGLE!

Let every Red Cell of the CPMK raise his name in the ideological classrooms.

Let every Youth League cadre learn from his life.

Let every revolutionary know: he lived not for himself, but for the revolution.

That is why he shall never die.

Long live Comrade Ammar Baghdash!

Long live the Syrian Communist Party!

Long live international proletarian solidarity!

Down with imperialism!

Socialism or barbarism — there is no third path!

LETTER TO THE GLOBAL NORTH
05 May 2026 14:16

Comrades, We address you at a historical precipice. The global capitalist system, in its advanced stage of heightened imperialism, is characterized by deepening crises and escalating violence. The centers of imperial power—Washington, Brussels, London, Paris are intensifying their efforts to maintain a hegemony that is increasingly contested. In the Global South, we are the primary targets of this aggression. The mechanisms of our oppression are calculated and brutal. We are strangled by illegitimate debt, wielded not as economic aid, but as a weapon of political control by institution [ ... ]
